Customer/Freelance working laydays

DIY Friendly: Dana Point Shipyard is DIY friendly, with customer working laydays by the day, or month depending on your scope of work.  We also allow freelance contractors to work in the yard with the correct insurance!  Our layday policy is commonly misunderstood.  While Dana Point Shipyard is working on your vessel and providing the materials we DO NOT charge laydays.  If customers choose to work on their own vessels exclusively, we will charge customer working laydays.  If customers choose to work on their own vessel while the vessel is also being worked on by Dana Point Shipyard, we may charge customer working laydays, see your project manager for details.  If customers choose to provide their own parts and those parts that they are providing are holding up progress that could be made on the job, we may charge storage laydays at $3.25 per ft per day.  If customers have been given estimates for work needed on their vessel we will give you time, 72hrs to make your decisions, however, if 72hrs has been reached and no decision has been made, we may charge storage laydays.  If a vessel is finished and not paid and picked up within 72hrs without prior arrangements, we may charge storage laydays.

Customer Working Laydays: Only the owner of the vessel is allowed to work on vessel in the yard, must provide proof of liability insurance ($300,000), and sign a hold harmless agreement. Owner must also adhere to Dana Point Shipyard’s rules\regulations and our BMP guidelines (click to see Do It Yourself Yard Rules and DIY BMP Guidelines).  Any paint product applied must be purchased from our marine store due to VOC (volatile organic compounds) guidelines, tracking and limitations for our NPDES water quality permit.  DIY weekend special runs all year, haul out Friday work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  No work to be done Monday except painting pads while vessel is hanging in slings (1hr to hang in slings) at your launch time.  With this special you get Friday’s working layday for FREE!  On Monday if additional days are needed, that’s no problem, you just pay for the additional days you need.
